The "Crazy Crafters" have lived up to their name really well, as they enjoyed each weekly session learning and practicing new creative skills. The crafts they've made are quirky and unique to each crafter. The stuff they've made included jewellery, clocks, and cards, and they attended a family fun day event in Spennymoor to sell these items at their own stall- one of the first handcrafted items sold was to the Mayor of Spennymoor!
One of the Volunteer Incubators took place at the TCR Hub in Barnard Castle over the course of six weeks. Volunteers took the opportunity to help organise weekly Friendship Group sessions on a Wednesday afternoon. Sessions involved making mocktails, decorating biscuits, doing a brunch and playing board games. We are hoping to run more projects like this in the future.
Every Friday at the COSE in Bishop Auckland, volunteers work in the kitchen preparing and cooking two-course meals. We have members from the local community attending these Lunch Clubs on a Friday lunchtime and all of them have enjoyed the dining experience in our main room in the COSE. Volunteers have whipped up tasty meals including toad-in the-hole, chicken curry and mince pies. A fantastic opportunity to gain work experience in catering and hospitality and gain valuable skills in cooking and food hygiene awareness.
Another one of our Volunteer Incubator programmes is currently taking place at the Locomotion railway museum in Shildon. The volunteers here have been getting their hands dirty doing various grounds work around the museum grounds including maintaining the garden landscapes.
At Chester-Le-Street, a couple of girls on our Volunteer Project have done voluntary work at the Pop 'N' Tees collectibles shop on the high street. The work involved is managing stock and setting up displays around the shop. This is valuable work experience in retail that the girls can take away with them.
